  • As of now, when you use the internet you expect Net Neutrality as it is a given as it has been since the start of the internet.
  • Net Neutrality is the way that the internet has always worked.
  • Net neutrality is the basic principle that prohibits internet service providers like Comcast and Verizon from speeding up, slowing down or blocking any content  or websites you want to use.

  • Pia is a  former Verizon lawyer and a Trump appointee who has ignored the widespread outcry against his plan from millions of people, lawmakers, companies andco public-interest groups.
  • Without the Net Neutrality rules, many such companies like AT&T, Comcast and Verizon will be able to call all the shots and decide which websites, content and applications succeed as there will be a different paywall for each site. companies can now slow down their competitors’content or block political opinions they disagree with.
  • The consequences will be particularly devastating for marginalized communities media outlets have already are extremelly misrepresented or failed to serve. 
  • Many Poc, the LGBTQ community, indigenous peoples and religious minorities in the United States rely on the open internet to organize, access the many economic and educational opportunities that are given online and fight back against systemic or industrial discrimination.
  • Without Net Neutrality there wil be no Movement for Black Lives or Me Too campagains.

NDM: the effect of online technology on newspapers

1 ) Do you agree with James Murdoch that the BBC should not be allowed to provide free news online? Why? I do not completely agree with the argument that James Murdoch has presented, however i believe there is a lot of problem that lies within the Newspaper Industry due to lack of revenue. For example  Journalism is a key aspect in the newspaper industry as it is how the information is gathered and correctly reinforced to the public whilst keeping them interested and educated.
