Facebook launches drive in UK to tackle online extremist material

  • Facebook is to step up its attempts to tackle extremist material on the internet by educating charities and other non-government organisations about how to counter hate speech.
  • Facebook will launch the Online Civil Courage Initiative in the UK on which includes training organisations about how to monitor and respond to extremist content and the creation of a dedicated support desk at Facebook where concerns can be flagged up.
  • Theresa May  enforces that technology companies to do more to curb the “poisonous propaganda” as they have been heavily linked to terror attacks such as the recent acts  in Manchester and London. 
  • the prime minster, Theresa may  made those comments after talks with the French president, Emmanuel Macron as  they agreed to explore  and create new legal  laws for technology companies if they failed to remove extremist content or heavily control them
  • "Sandberg said the attacks in London and Manchester were “absolutely heartbreaking” and that “we all have a part to play in stopping violent extremism from spreading"
