Data from the NHS shows that has been 68 percent rise in hospital admission because of self harm with girls under the age of 17 in the past decade.
Mental health linked to conflicts with friends, body image and pressures created by new and digital media (e.g social media)
NHS has started to worry that they lack resources to tackles these issues efficiently.
Self harm has jumped from 10,500 to 17,500 over the space of a decade.
The jump amongst boys is much lower.
1 in 4 girls are best by negative emotions towards themselves such a loneliness, self hatred and depression.
Body dissatisfaction is seen around only 10% of females in primary school however the figure dramatically increase at the start of adolescence/puberty.
Research also links sexualisation to eating disorders, low self-esteem and depression. Adolescent girls are at greater risk of unhealthy relationship with their sexuality that may lead to problems in adulthood. Lastly, this has brought more attention towards lack of concern and spotlight on mental health and how it can lead into other problems if not handled correctly.
