Harvey Weinstein’s Fall Opens the Floodgates in Hollywood Link:  https://www.nytimes.com/2017/10/16/business/media/harvey-weinsteins-fall-opens-the-floodgates-in-hollywood.html Harvey Weinstein is certainly not the first powerful man publicly and credibly accused of sexually harassing or abusing women e.g Bill Cosby and Bill O'Reily  Mr. Weinstein’s accusers  include stars like Ashley Judd, Angelina Jolie and Gwyneth Paltrow. Facebook, Instagram and Twitter were flooded with messages from women who used the hashtag #MeToo to acknowledge that they had dealt with sexual harassment or assault. .A tweet posted by the actress Alyssa Milano inspired the online campaign. “If you’ve been sexually harassed or assaulted write ‘me too’ as a reply to this tweet,” Ms. Milano wrote. The hashtag went on to be used more than 500,000 times in its first 24 hours by people from all lines of work.  This article is highly interesting as brings a highly important and focal issue w

NDM: the effect of online technology on newspapers

1 ) Do you agree with James Murdoch that the BBC should not be allowed to provide free news online? Why? I do not completely agree with the argument that James Murdoch has presented, however i believe there is a lot of problem that lies within the Newspaper Industry due to lack of revenue. For example  Journalism is a key aspect in the newspaper industry as it is how the information is gathered and correctly reinforced to the public whilst keeping them interested and educated. Unfortunately, a lot of newspaper companies tend to  have problems such as a lack of advertising revenue therefore it is not shocking as  they have to turn towards non-profit organisation such as the public to keep on being able to produce top high quality journalism and news   this blog on the Times paywall three years on 2) Was Rupert Murdoch right to put his news content (The Times, The Sunday Times) behind a paywall? I can comprise and understand Rupert Murdoch perspective and views from an econo

Link:  https://t.co/0jEGBCrYYK Twitter and Facebook are good for democracy as it emerges movements against the elites Jeremy Corbyn led the Labour party to its largest increase in votes share since 1945 In France, the leftist, Jean-Luc Melenchon came within two percentage points of breaking into the second round of presidential elections. Lastly within the United States, Bernie Sanders is the most popular socialist politicians] The reason for a revival of socialism is because people no longer have faith and hope within our elitist favouring system that has been failing the majority of citizens especially the youth for years now. Standard of living has collapsed throughout the world whilst those with riches seem to be prospering more than ever. This can be linked to social media as we have seen has social media can bring massess and masses of people together and unite them to fight for a cause such as black lives matter and other movements. The elections that have tak

Paddlock was declared as ' Lone Wolf' Donald Trump Tweets Positively 'May God bless the victims' (no comment on the attacker) White Privilege- given a head start in society and also the freedom from certain consequences of the individual and group actions.. This statement 'Lone wolf' is regarded highly problematic in many people's eyes as it removes the blame from the attackers and allows room for sympathy which is the opposite treatment found i many other cases which involved those of different ethnicity or religious backgrounds.

The Decline of News Paper Industry (2)

Read the article in  full  and c reate a  blogpost  on your MEST3 Exam Blog called 'Build The Wall analysis'. 1) Summarise each section in  one sentence : Section 1 (To all of the bystanders reading this…) The writer states that the only way to combat the decline of the newspaper industry is to place back value into the concept of newspaper by putting up a subscription. Section 2 (Truth is, a halting movement toward...) This gradually movement will cause other micro newspaper companies to follow as they realise the foolishness of giving away free content and monetisation  is better Section 3 (Beyond Mr. Sulzberger and Ms. Weymouth…) Consumers have become too comfortable with the concept of receiving paided resourced for free and this specific concept directly effects the failing revenue of the newspaper  industry. Section 4 (For the industry, it is later than it should be…) This section of the article speaks upon how the effects of the many steps that

NDM: The decline of the newspaper industry(1)

The future of newspapers : this article from the Economist on the future of newspapers The article discusses the factors and effects of the slowly eroding industry of the printed newspapers. It also talks about the advantages of the news industry such as it is the most reliable and diligent piece of media currently existing according to many such as Arthur Miller and Rupert Murdoch. It also mentions how the main factor towards decline of the newspaper industry is heavily linked to the growth and prosperity of the internet also known as 'global village'. 1)  Do you agree with its view that it is ‘a cause for concern, but not for panic’ I personally heavily agree with this statement as it is  vitally impossible to save the newspaper industry in this date and age due to the success and prosperity of its opponent, the internet. However there is still a need and dependence for the newspapers industry therefore stabilisation and reduction in decline is the current 'concern

"15 Billionaires control American Media....." Link:  https://t.co/B0sVJsmqYt "billionaires have long exerted influence on the news simply by own us media outlets" Billionaires such as Rupert Murdoch and Michael Bloomberg are long time media moguls who have made their fortunes through their news businesses. Billionaires own parts or several bits of America's influential national papers such as The Washington post, The Wall street Journal and New York Times (in addition to local papers, online publications and magazines.) Michael Bloomberg, the richest of the media entrepreneur, returned after stepping down as mayor of new yok city. His network is worth $45.7 Billion. Donald New-house and his brother Samuel are also another one of  highly influential billionaires as they own shares of Vanity Fair, Wired, The New York etc. Personally, i believe these small number of people have way too much control over the media therefore they are able to project thei
